About L McKee Photography

My name is Larry McKee and I am a photojournalist based in Oakland County, Michigan.
I run a photography business (L McKee Photography) that specializes in high school action sports and senior portrait photography. I also work for various print publications including The Oakland Press and Detroit News. I have worked as both a staff writer and photographer and a freelance writer and photographer for newspapers, magazines and periodicals in the United States and Europe. Before starting my photography business in 2010, I had worked the previous 15-years as a staff photographer for a group of Gannett newspapers covering Oakland and Wayne counties. I have received over 47 state and national awards for my work and have degrees in Liberal Arts and Media Arts. I was the staff photographer for a Michigan Press Association Newspaper of the Year recipient and was twice nominated for Journalist of the Year honors. My work has been recognized by the National Newspaper Association, the Suburban Newspaper Association, the Michigan Press Association, the Detroit Society of Professional Journalists and the Michigan Press Photographers Association. As a photojournalist, I believe my job is to capture moments that not only provoke an emotion or grab your attention, but that also tell a story. That is the approach I take for every genre of photography I pursue and practice.
